Students are the future of corporate India.

On behalf of the BES's Institute of Management Studies and Research (BESIMSR) I welcome all of you to be a member of the family which comprises of the unique educational institutions founded by various trusts of the Dawoodi Bohra Community with the blessings of His Holiness, Dr Syedna Burhanuddin. 

The Burhani College of Commerce and Arts was established in 1970 with a strength of 2000 students in Junior and degree college and in un-aided Bachelor of Management Studies and other career oriented courses all affiliated to University of Mumbai.

The BESIMSR was established in 2007 to conduct primarily the Master of Management Studies (MMS) and other professional courses at post graduate level. The MMS course is affiliated to the University of Mumbai. The course has been recently revised to be on par with the foremost and the best of professional courses in India and abroad. The institute will take in its first batch in July 2008.

The institute believes that management students are the future of corporate India. Since Indian independence, the world has slowly realised that India has not remained a country of fakirs and snake charmers. India as a country has progressed on the path of economic development and material wellbeing for her citizens and now it is taking rapid strides with a growth rate approaching nine percent per annum and a significant reduction in population below poverty line. India has the largest pool of educated and trained man-power. However much remains to be done as other countries of the world have progressed much faster.

Today's business leaders and managers work in a competitive and therefore stressful environment. Modern management is turning towards age-old concepts of ethics and religion We need to inculcate in students 'education with values'.

While imparting management education at BESIMSR, the faculty and staff plans to expose them to the realities of the corporate world through experiential methods of learning and interactive management development and industry mentorship programmes. We at BES's Institute of Management and Research plan to focus on Value based and holistic education to our students to prepare them to face tomorrow's world. Traditional concepts of managing enterprises and economies are crumbling under the onslaught of changes in terms of speed and complexity of modern technology. Management education needs to reinvent itself to face the changing world. It needs to take into account the interconnectedness of the businesses and value of operating multiple supply chains worldwide so managers and companies can 'Think globally and Act Locally'. Companies today can manufacture wherever it is cheapest and market the products wherever the returns are the highest. Volatility of global finance is another dimension that today's managers have to cope with.

Let us rededicate ourselves to the cause of management education in the new light.
